Favored of the Lord

Friends from our Alabama mission
Good morning 2012!

One of my goals is to write a blog with my thoughts from day to day.

I have been thinking about the words Nephi said in the first part of the Book of Mormon "I was highly favored of the Lord" and I wondered, am I highly favored? What makes a person highly favored?  Since the Lord is no respecter of persons and he loves everyone the same, being favored must come from someone who is willing to be obedient. The more obedient the more favored and the more blessings, revelations, dreams and visions one can have.  The Lord wants to give us everything he has.  "He is merciful and gracious to those that reverence him and delight to serve him, and all hidden mysteries shall be revealed, the wonders of eternity shall they know and their understanding shall reach to heaven, things the eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor entered into the heart of man."  WOW!  I love those words in D&C 76...it says it all.  He wants to give me everything! He wants to favor me and you.....and it's all up to me and you.
Isn't it also interesting that not only was Nephi highly favored but he states that he had seen many afflictions in his days?  In the last few years I have come to understand how those two statements go together, being highly favored and having seen many afflictions.....the more trials, difficulties and afflictions I have, the closer I become connected to my Heavenly Father.  I didn't always think that way in the past, in fact as a young mother I use to think that if I do what is right I can get through this life without any problems.  I was really naive.  Of course sometimes trials and problems make people bitter and not humble and then their afflictions have not taught them a thing.  Our trials are for the very purpose to turn us to the Lord in humility and he will comfort us, teach us, and direct us forward and onward.

Don't worry about living a perfect life, instead worry about being perfectly obedient.
